THROWBACK THURSDAY...
For the first Throwback Thursday of the year, I'm going to take it back ten years to 2002. Recently I've been immersing my ears in the music of upcoming R&B artist Nikkiya. The whole hip-hop sentiment and vibe of her music really reminds me of Erykah Badu. From the neatly, head bobbing produced beats to the tone and style of her voice is totally Erykah but with a new school twist that detaches her from being a copycat artist - she's awesome.
Back to the throwback! The track I wanted to share with you this Thursday is one of my favourite Erykah Badu tracks, right of the soundtrack of one of my favourite films from that decade - Brown Sugar...

Today's chosen track comes straight out the first half of the year 2000 from the one and only Mya who has been missing in action of late...
Classic Bow Wow
Bow Wow, just tweeted this classic photo of him with Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri. Seeing this just reminded me of the good old days of R&B and Hip Hop. When the productions were absolutely tight and lyrics were much more meaningful. So just before the day is out in the UK (10minutes to spare) I thought I'd drop another Throwback Thursday !! I'm taking it back to the year 2000 when he went by the name of Lil' Bow Wow. 'Bounce With Me' was the first and lead single of his debut album, Beware Of Dog and was obviously produced by Dupri. The song featured girl group XSCAPE and appearances from Jagged Edge and Da Brat. The video includes clips from Big Momma's House, as the track featured on the hit films soundtrack. It's so hard to believe this was 11 years ago !! Check it out...

This Throwback Thursday I'm taking it back to the year 2001. With the new millennium just one year in, every one getting comfortable and embracing the new: this was definitely a year filled with great music.
Throwback Thursday: Kanye West
This Throwback Thursday track has to be one of my favourite Kanye West tracks. The song though rude, is just filled with so much energy and makes you want to get involved and get down with the title.
Yes, if you've guessed, it's 'New Workout Plan'. When this Lil' Jon produced song came out I knew the lyrics to the whole song - including the skit with the crazy weight losing women near the end - (FIFI LEBEOUFF BEING THE BEST !!) With his whit and simple rhymes it was totally easy to learn with a few listens.
The early Kanye days with songs such as this, he was much more satirical and his music was so much easier to relate to than the new stuff his coming out with these days, but hey people still loathe love him !!
The video directed by was just hilarious, and as any silly teenager would I used to join in with the routine and add my own dance moves in the mix; from the start right through to the end.

Outkast 'The Way You Move' & 'Hey Ya'!
During this week the new hip-hop duo The Throne (Jay-Z and Kanye West) dropped their album Watch The Throne; so for this week's edition of Throwback Thursday I really wanted to take it back, and showcase one of the most successful hip-hop double act superbods, Big Boi and Andre 3000 better known as...Outkast!
As they are a duo, I thought I'd drop two of their tracks, both from their fifth studio album Speakerboxxx/The Love Below.
First up is 'The Way You Move' from the Speakerboxxx side of the double album - recorded by Big Boi.
The 2003 number one single features a very blusey R&B guest vocal from Sleepy Brown.
THE LINK...the video directed by Bryan Barber has a bridging sequence to Andre 3000's spirit lifting and brilliantly electrifying track 'Hey Ya' which from the The Love Below segment of the double album.
The awesome video has 8 versions of Andre singing and playing as part of a band which was part of making it one of the 'Top 100 Music videos of All Time' in 2006 according to Stylus Magazine.

Today's second Throwback Thursday track has to be Busta Rhymes' 'Pass The Courvoisier Part II' featuring Diddy and Pharrell Williams.

One because it was on the airwaves today, two because the production courtesy of The Neptunes is truly BADASS!!; and three because it really takes it back to that point in the nougties when R&B was still good.
Not to say that it isn't good anymore at all, but it definitely isn't the same - the realness and vibe to music that used to be there has just vanished. Also it brings back those memories when music videos had those little skits, this particular one with a cameo appearance from chat host Mo'Nique who bads up Busta !! You can't help but chuckle.
So cheers to old times, good music and the fact that tomorrow is the start of the freekin' weekend.

The track just popped up in my head this week, and also there's been a comeback track from Ja Rule featuring Ashanti that has been circulating the airwaves and it took me back to this track - though it isn't half as good. This #ThrowbackThursday I just had to drop this track. It's so lifting, and it's one of the best tracks from Common even though all his material is top notch. Coming from his fourth studio album, Like Water for Chocolate the video stars his girlfriend at the time - Erykah Badu and was deemed to be a love letter to her.
