Jean Simmons, OBE "one of the most quietly commanding actresses Hollywood has ever trashed" according to critic Pauline Kael, dies at the age of 80 in her home, from lung cancer - just little over a week before her 81st birthday.

She was well known for playing Ophelia in Sir Laurence Olivier's 'Hamlet' (1948) - from which she one an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
