Choice FM to become Capital XTRA after 22 years on the airwaves as of Monday 7th October.

"All good things come to an end", and today marks the end of an era as it has been announced that Choice FM will now become known as Capital XTRA.

The re-branding will take effect on Monday morning (October 7), with current Choice FM morning hosts Kojo Mante and Jade Avia launching revamped programming “Kojo & Jade with XTRA in the morning” at 6am.

Ashley Tabor, founder and executive president at Global stated:

The launch of Capital XTRA is a great moment for listeners, for commercial radio, for the DAB platform and for our team here at Global. People right across the UK will now get to enjoy a truly national station in Capital XTRA – the only commercial station to play urban dance music nationwide. We’re taking the best presenters and shows and building on that by adding even more new talent to the line up and we believe Capital XTRA has a very bright future.
Not only has the station been given a brand new name, the DJ line up has been shaken up too. Choice FM veterans including reggae DJs Daddy Ernie and Natty B, soca DJ Martin Jay R&B DJ KC have all been axed from the station and have been replaced by the likes of singer Craig David, Swedish DJ Avicii and Tim Westwood who recently left BBC Radio 1Xtra.

Choice FM fans have taken to the station's brand new verified social networks - Capital XTRA on Facebook page and @CapitalXTRA - to share their disappointment and anger.

The tagline "Number 1 for Hip-Hop and R&B" which disappeared years ago has now become "the UK's first national urban dance music station". As well as the new line up and strapline, the station will also be streaming worldwide and have a new app for mobiles/tablets.

You can tune into the brand new radio station from 6am on Monday 7th October with Kojo & Jade, XTRA In The Morning and find it first at their new website www.CapitalXTRA.com.
